I can’t believe that I’m starting week 7 of my training! Looking back, I’ve had some runs that I had to miss/skip due to illness or a minor injury and I’ve also had to switch things around with the days because I was traveling, quarantining, out of town for a wedding (twice). I like that I have a concrete plan but I can adjust and I am in the driver’s seat. I can turn to Jeff for confirmation on something I’m doing but I am able to figure things out on my own most of the time. I guess after more than seven years of being student, I am becoming a teacher or at least, a teacher’s assistant.
The past week went pretty well. I didn’t get to do anything last Monday since I had been traveling all day and travel days have long been considered days off. Being in quarantine, I did a workout that Jeff had sent to me that had me using the TRX and doing some core work. It was a 20 minute workout so after a short break, I did a You Tube 10,000 step workout to get some movement in my lower body. I was able to get out and about on Wednesday so to the gym, I went to do the mile repeat run that had been scheduled for Monday. I did a five minute warmup and then a mile at a 9:30 minute mile pace three times and a 3 minute recovery walk after each mile. Thursday had me training with Jeff at our usual time (9 AM for him/4 PM for me) and I had walked outside earlier in the morning. I did my speed work on Friday with a three minute warmup and then five rounds of a 60 second speed burst and a 2 minute recovery walk. I hit some higher numbers for each minute I had to really run it but it felt good to do it. Saturday had me taking a walk with my middle daughter and we hit one of the really big hills that I’ll be running in the 10k, come March. And on Sunday, I did a four mile run on the treadmill at 7 AM since I had a really busy day and I knew it was the only time I’d get it in.
So it’s a new week…I got my run in this morning and it was a mile repeat at a 9:20 minute mile pace. It definitely felt more challenging to do but I got through each mile and the three minute recovery seemed to speed by quicker than the pace I had run in each mile! I’m feeling better than I have in weeks and I welcome each day as a part of getting me stronger and helping me with my overall pace but also just getting me feeling good!
