Back At It

I have been doing my own thing running wise over the last few weeks and it’s been great to run however many miles, however the pace and time…there has been no pressure to do anything other than to run. It’s given me back my love for running after so many months…more than a year possibly…of feeling stuck and not so motivated. I’ve been running outside more and I’ve been trying really hard to take in everything around me, such as the sounds and the landscapes of the buildings I pass and the people on the street. This is something I really don’t do back at home, where I typically run in the suburbs and don’t take the time and effort to really appreciate and be aware of everything.

With Jeff’s encouragement, I am bumping things up a bit with my runs for the next week. It’s all about intensity now and pushing myself at whatever I choose to do with my run. This morning, I followed a plan I found online that I tweaked a bit and it turned out to be a great run. I did a five minute warmup easy run and then did intervals of various timed speed bursts, followed by a two minute recovery. The recovery can be a walk or jog pace but I really wanted to get the most out of this run so I kept the recovery at a 10 minute mile pace. It wound up being a little bit over a five mile run, which is great for an interval run…a nice distance and a good overall pace of a 9:10 minute mile.
